Adventuring in America - my experience and hot tips!

As you may have seen on social media, I recently returned from a five week holiday in America (sorry not sorry, for the USA Insta spam! HAHA!) For five weeks I partied in Vegas (and by partied I mean went to bed by 10PM), ate my way through LA, enjoyed a wintery Christmas in NYC and learnt a whole lot in DC. It. Was. Epic.

My initial reason for booking the trip was to attend a Babes in Business meetup in Vegas - how’s that for a cool work opportunity! (On a side note, if you want to know more about Babes in Business and how you can join the community, get in touch!) Babes from all over the globe came together to learn, set biz goals for the new year and have a whole lot of fun! It was bloody cold (I really am a sunshine loving Gold Coast gal through and through), but being able to hug fellow Babes in Business that I’d built relationships with online was oh-so-special and worth the frost bite.

Although the Babes in Business meet up was one of the definite highlights of my trip, there really were SO many memorable moments. In case you have a trip to the States planned, or if you’re looking for some motivation to get saving and adventuring yourself, here’s a few of my favourite memories and experiences …

Spending a huge chunk of time with my friend Adriana, and all the other friends I met and reconnected with along the way! There’s nothing like hanging out with people you love, in another country, without the stress of work and daily life to interfere!

Road tripping in LA for 10 days. LA is hands down one of my favourite places in the world - the sun, the healthy culture and the endless food choices suit me to a tee! If you’re into health and wellness, LA is a must see.

HARRY POTTER WORLD! Oh. My. God. Talk about morphing into a crazy 15 year old teenage girl again! This place blew my mind. If I could live there, I would!

Watching the sunset over Venice beach. It really is a special place packed to the brim with diversity and individuality!

The Grove in NYC. This place is breathtakingly beautiful at Christmas. If you visit, be sure to check out the Melrose Trading Post Markets while you’re there. #you’rewelcomeinadvance

Taking a ‘Big Bus’ tour around NYC (FOR TWO WHOLE DAYS!) I’m not one for being a token tourist but this epic bus tour allowed us to see and explore Manhattan in all its glory. From there, we decided where we wanted to return! If you have limited time, this is a great way to see the ‘Big Apple’!

Figure skating in Central Park - I used to be a competitive figure skater in my teens and hadn’t stepped back on the ice since! Doing this was something my heart had been dying to do after 12 long years way from the rink.

These are all cliche, but a must when in NYC - walking over the Brooklyn Bridge; eating a bagel at DUMBO; visiting the soup man from Seinfeld; catching the Subway; watching the Rockettes; people watching in Times Square and going to the top of the Empire State Building. #bestillmygratefulheart

Exploring the museums of DC. I have explored more but, due to political issues, all of them ended up closing during my stay (sad face!) My favourite though, was the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History (pop a whole day aside in your calendar to explore it!)

Of course, when in DC, the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and the White House are a must see!

Georgetown - what a cool place! The University up on the hill looks like a castle! Americans really don’t do things in halves do they!

All in all, I had an incredible trip and created memories that I know will last me a lifetime. My adventure reminded me of the importance of stepping out of our daily lives from time to time and to have fun and experience new cultures. I feel more my Self than I have in a long time and ready to take on another big year supporting you to nourish your skin and love yourself. If reading this has ignited something deep within you (like dreaming of an overseas adventure, starting your own business, eating your way through a continent - haha, or making 2019 the year of YOU), then I encourage you to honour that feeling. It’s never too late to start something new and turn your dreams into reality. This year will be the year that I say yes to more. I hope you’ll join me.

Here’s to a joy filled year ahead (and clear skin that shines from the inside out!)
